This vehicle was developed for the mini Shinkansen between Morioka and Akita in 1997 like Series 400. The maximum speed is 275km/h between Tokyo and Morioka on Tohoku Shinkansen, 130km/h between Morioka and Akita on the existing line. This vehicle is running as KOMACHI on Akita Shinkansen and as TUBASA on Yamagata Shinkansen. KOMACHI means Akita Komachi which is one of the most famous rice in Akita.
