The vehicle was developed for Seriese 200 on Tohoku Shinkansen in 1997. After that, This vehicle was developed to go up a steep slope (30 permil). The maximum speed is 275km/h. Although this vehicle with the red band is running as ASAMA on Nagano Shinkansen only. ASAMA means Mt. Asama along Nagano Shinkansen.
