This series was developed to run fast for Tokaido Shinkansen by JR Central in 1992. It was 2.5 hours between Tokyo and Shin-Osaka as NOZOMI. It had taken 3 hours between same section before this vehicle had run. NOZOMI (the hope) is more expensive than HIKARI (the ray) or KODAMA (the echo). The maximum speed is 270km/h. This series has disappeared in 2012.
